Joye McElroy currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors.
Joye started running in 1996 when she finally kick the nicotine habit and gained 60+ lbs. She started running the downhills around Stone Mountain, figuring gravity was working for her and walking the uphills when it wasn’t. She hadn’t a clue what she was doing. She just figured it was a cheap way to get back in shape, right? Buy some athletic shoes and go run. First it was run the downs and walk the ups, then run the downs, the flats, and to the next telephone pole, until one day she completed the full loop around the mountain without stopping. You guys probably heard her whooping and hollering.
She ran her first race, the Peachtree Road Race in 1996 and she’s run it every year since. She took up distance running in 2003 when she met Jeff Galloway and he convinced her that if she could run a 10K she could run a half marathon. He also convinced her she should run it in Greece since that’s where it all started. She ended up running the full. She’ll leave that story for another time.
To date she’s completed 93 marathons or ultras, in all 50 states, and several countries. In addition to being the President of the Darkside Running Club, she is also a member of the 50 State Finisher Club, and the Maniacs #7429. She’s a project manager and recently completed her MBA Executive Program at UGA. “Go DAWGS!”
She lives in Roswell, GA overlooking the Hooch with her best friend and love, David Proulx. They do not have children but they have a love of animals. They currently share their home with Ziggy, their little Papillion and a small herd of deer.
