Don Carpenter

In the late 80’s while living in Atlanta, Don Carpenter ran mostly 5K’s & 10K’s and was a member of the Atlanta Track Club.  In 1990, he saw a Jeff Galloway half marathon training plan in a Peachtree Road Race packet and decided to follow it.  After running the Atlanta Half Marathon that year, he decided to join a Galloway Marathon training group & in 1991 completed his first marathon.  He continued with a Galloway training group for another year and ran several more marathons. He ran 5 marathons in the early 90’s until 1994, and didn’t completed another marathon until 2008.  He has currently completed 52 marathons/ultras and is on pace to complete his 60th marathon/ultra on his 60th birthday in April 2018. He still follows Jeff Galloway’s philosophy today.

He has been a member of the Darkside Running Club since 2013.  He is also a member of Team RWB, Marathon Maniacs, & Half Fanatics. His first Darkside event was the Peachtree City 50k.  It’s one that he’ll never forget since a few minutes before the race he had a shorts malfunction and had to run in his wife Adamy’s sleep shorts!

Don is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and spent many years as a social worker in Atlanta, GA and Greenville SC.  He served in the Kentucky Army National Guard while in ROTC, and also as an Officer in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Since 2001, he has been a certified and licensed massage therapist and the co-owner of Angel Dolfyn Massage.  There, he specializes in Workers Compensation medical massage, as well as therapeutic and sports massage.  In 2003, Angel Dolfyn Massage was chosen as the Greer Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.  In the year 2000, while as social worker, the Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth organization honored Don with the State’s Child Advocate of the Year award.

Don is looking forward to his new role of editor of the Absolute True … Tales from the Darkside Newsletter.
